Post5 Theatre Company started in August of 2011 with three young men in their mid-twenties and the dream of staging the beautiful classic- Romeo and Juliet. The founder's of Post5 Theatre picked a welcoming and cultivating environment of the courtyard of Mile Post 5, Portland's artist community, to launch their new company. With a vision to produce fresh, youthful, ensemble based theatre experiences for actors and audiences alike they started their dream. Post5 Theatre started as a free Shakespeare company because we believed that everyone should be able to have access to the rich work of William Shakespeare and the transformative experience that is live theater.
We believe people of all ages and from every walk of life have something unique and enriching to gain by participating in live theatre as artists and audience members and we believe in always expanding access to performance. While Post5 Theatre continues to produce the great plays of William Shakespeare, the company has broadened into a year round black-box theatre that opens the door to intimate explorations of other classic writers such as, Moliere, and contemporary playwrights like, Mary Zimmerman.
At Post5 Theatre, we strive to celebrate and reveal the vibrancy that is live theatre! We believe people of all ages and from every walk of life have something unique and enriching to gain by participating in potent live theatre as artists and audience members and we believe in always expanding access to performance.
Theatre, as with any form of art, should not come easy. We are not afraid of the concepts: “Ensemble-based Learning”, and “Bold Choices.” We believe the play is a vessel, manned by actors, boldly sent out to cross the gap between the page and the experience. We look forward to challenging our company, our players and crew, and our audience.
Come play with us!
